Name: Ogawa Kumiko, 81 years old Nickname: Kumi-chan Residence: Sotoku City, Fukuoka Prefecture Previous jobs: Worked at Mitsubishi Copper Works, Ltd. Nagasaki Copper Works until marriage at age 24 Reason for starting saki weaving: I have loved fabrics and threads since I was young. I started weaving in my 50s because I wanted to wear a cotton kimono and obi that I had woven myself someday. I particularly love well-worn indigo-dyed cotton fabrics, and I collect them at antique markets. I tear and weave such old fabrics.
Hobbies and interests: I like to live my own way. I want to continue living surrounded by things I like, trying to invent and create things. I like rough things more than neat things. Another hobby I want to continue is playing the piano, and I'm currently playing my second sonatina.
